Kyrgyzstan
On 24 August 1998 I packed my bicycle with a tent, a sleeping bag and a wad of dollar bills, and hopped on a plane to Almaty (I flew with KLM from Birmingham).
I stayed at the Hotel Kazakhstan, Almaty (2 nights); the Business School Hotel, Bishkek (2 nights); Hotel Ak-Kuu, Balykchy; homestay, Kara-Koo; nameless gostinitsa, Bokonbayevo; Hotel Issyk Kul, Karakol (4 nights); forestry service building, Altyn Arashan; wild camp, Keldeke Valley; wild camp, Lake Ala-Kul; forestry service building, Altyn Arashan; Hotel Issyk Kul, Karakol (2 nights); homestay, Ak-Chiy; police custody, Kegen, Kazakhstan and the Hotel Kazakhstan, Almaty (2 nights).
