Bolivia
In August and September 1999 Emma and I toured Bolivia by bicycle and bus. We flew from London to Miami with American Airlines and then on to La Paz, arriving the next day.
After two nights in La Paz we took the bus south to Oruro and set off cycling. We camped the first night near Huanuni but found the going to be more difficult and less scenic than anticipated. So the next day we took the bus back to Oruro and then on, overnight, to Uyuni.
From Uyuni we cycled out on to the Salar de Uyuni for three days' riding, camping the second night at Isla Pescado. Afterwards we took the bus to Potosí for 3 nights, and then back to La Paz (via Oruro). We cycled out to Tiahuanaco and then on to Lake Titicaca, after which we took the bus to Sorata before finally returning to La Paz for the flights home.
We stayed at Hostal República, La Paz, wild camped near Huanuni, Hostal La Mágia de Uyuni, Uyuni, wild camped two nights on the Salar de Uyuni, Hostal La Mágia de Uyuni, Uyuni, Hostal Libertador, Potosí, Hostal República, La Paz, wild camped near Tiahuanaco, Hotel Titikaka, near Huarina, Hotel ??, Sorata and Hostal República, La Paz.
